Yorick: Worlds in Bloom

Description

First of all this is my game design, my game vision, my art direction. Its not recreating someone else's idea. Not a one shot.

Yorick started off as a 2 week experiment with ChatGPT and Claude. You can see my old post where I blocked out the core gameplay, mechanics, aesthetics using AI.

It was one of a bunch of small experiments I rapidly prototyped using AI. This one got the most traction overall. So I decided to flush out the game a bit more in HTML using Threejs. I was super happy being able to knock out a prototype of my own creation.

My goal is to put a game on Steam October Next fest, see if there is a big interest and add more content to the full game such as more unique planets, weird discoveries, interesting life forms, etc.

Well, I finished the HTML prototype and had a few friends play it and they were hooked (the "cleaning dead matter" mechanic was a strong hook for them). As well as the engagement it got online. I was ahead of my own schedule.

About that time Astra dropped. I tempted fate and asked "maybe I can rebuild the game in Unity before I submit for Next Fest?"

Well 3-4 days later (not full days as I have a full time job) The game was reproduced in Unity with a bit more polish, features and bugs fixed.

Color me impressed.

Also I built my own 3d models built in blockbench.
