Poster Studio — A Free Poster Generator for Everyone

I built Poster Studio because I was tired of seeing simple printable posters sold as overpriced Etsy PDFs.

If someone wants a poster of their favourite album, movie, game, book, or personal project, they should not have to pay again and again for a static template that only works for one specific design. I wanted to create a tool that gives everyone the freedom to make their own posters — with their own artwork, their own information, and their own style.

The idea started with a simple prompt:

Build a web app that lets users create professional-looking album posters from their own artwork and export them as print-ready PNG and PDF files.

From there, I kept refining it with prompts such as:

Add multiple poster templates with different visual identities, while keeping the editing experience simple.

Let users choose common print formats such as A4, A3, 30×40 cm, 40×50 cm, 50×70 cm, and US Letter.

Make the exported files suitable for real printing, including selectable DPI settings and exact page sizes.

Add a music workflow with editable album metadata and tracklists, but also support custom posters for movies, games, books, photography, events, and personal projects.

Keep the uploaded artwork private by processing it locally in the browser instead of uploading it to a server.

One of the most useful additions was MusicBrainz integration. It can provide album metadata and tracklists, while the user still supplies their own artwork. I also added locally generated QR codes, artwork-based colour palettes, several music poster styles, and dedicated editorial templates for custom posters.

The result is Poster Studio: a browser-based poster maker that turns personal artwork and a few pieces of information into a print-ready design.

No expensive design software. No locked templates. No buying another PDF for every new idea.

Just upload, customise, and export.

I built Poster Studio to make this kind of creativity accessible to everyone — and to prove that a small idea, shaped through thoughtful prompts, can become a genuinely useful tool.
