Description

GearDex is a camera gear inventory for photographers, videographers, and studios, on the web and now as a native macOS app. It was built with AI help in Cursor on a Next.js, React, and TypeScript stack, with PostHog for product analytics.

Each item in the gear library can hold its brand and model, serial number, mount, photos, purchase date and price, current value, condition, storage location, and notes, with dedicated sections for cameras, lenses, accessories, filters, and drones. Smart Add turns a plain sentence or a photo into gear records for you to review, CSV import checks every row before saving, and every plan can export a full backup as ZIP, JSON, or CSV.

Version 3.5 (Sep 5, 2026) adds free My Kit Snapshots and Record Readiness, which shows which items are missing a photo, serial number, or receipt. Pro and Studio add a Unified Timeline for shoot day and Iris Prep Review, where the built-in Iris assistant checks a shoot plan for gear conflicts and missing essentials. Studio adds an Availability Board.

On Pro, receipts, warranty cards, manuals, and insurance policies attach to the items they belong to, with alerts before a warranty expires, plus reports, a one-click insurance PDF, a rig builder, and QR labels. Shoot planning covers locations, call sheets, moodboards, checklists, weather, and sun, moon, and tide times.

The native Mac app is at https://geardex.app/download. There is no iOS app. Starter is free for up to 25 items; Pro is $39/year and Studio is $179/year. Made by Dylan Andersen in Irvine, California (founded 2025).
